The Order of Malta in Morocco has launched a small centre in Midelt in June 2022, which gives support to up to 10 children with motor disability. The local team is lead by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary, which have been in Midelt for decades and have a strong connection with the local population. The children receive 2 sessions of physiotherapy each week with a local professional. However, the more support they receive, the better. Medical volunteers, particularly volunteers with a background in physiotherapy would bring some useful expertise to the local team.
In its current setup, the centre has been launched in a house within the Cistersian Monastery of the Atlas in Midelt – a unique place in Morocco. The monastery has accommodation and offers a great environment for retreats and to visit the surroundings. The sisters are happy to give advice to visit surrounding places such as the village of Tatiouine, where they used to run a dispensary. Most people who visit Midelt experience something different than they have ever lived.
