Summer at the Beach for Marginalised and Disabled Children, Albania
The Albanian Relief Service hosted many activities this summer for disabled and marginalised children.
A summer camp for 25 disabled children, who live in a local care home, was run by staff and young volunteers and included sports activities, beach games, swimming lessons, cycling, parties and games. The highlights of the camp were a chance to sail a boat at sea and spend time on the beach with the young volunteers, activities the children would not otherwise be able to do.
Additionally, a summer school for marginalised children was also hosted throughout June and July this year and welcomed 220 Roma and Egyptian children, as well as children from deprived areas. The children, who are all from poor backgrounds, were given the opportunity to enjoy a summer vacation by the beach, and take part in outdoor activities.
